Yogesh Simmhan, Ph.D. - Research Assistant Professor

Distributed systems, Large scale data management, Cloud Computing, HPC, Dataflows and workflows, Provenance, Stream and event data, "Big Data" analytics, Scalable software architectures for eScience and Cyber-Physical Systems

Biographical Information:
  • Postdoc in eScience Group, Microsoft Research, 2007-2010, San Francisco, CA
  • Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science, Indiana University, 2007 and 2002, Bloomington, IN
  • B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, Madras University, 2000, Chennai, India

Dr. Simmhan is a Research Assistant Professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California, and Associate Director of the USC Center for Energy Informatics.

His research area is on distributed data and computing systems. His interests span dataflow programming frameworks, provenance, and large scale data management on distributed platforms like Clouds, with the goal of building scalable, resilient systems to empower dynamic, data-driven applications in eScience and eEngineering. He is currently leading a research effort on a scalable software architecture to support the informatics challenges of Smart Power Grids. He is a member of the ACM and IEEE Computer Society.
