George A. Bekey, Ph.D. - Professor Emeritus
Research Interests:

Robot intelligence, mobility, cooperation artificial intelligence in medicine and rehabilitation.

Biographical Information:

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, 1962, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA..

I came to USC after several years in industry (Beckman Instruments and TRW Systems). During my early years at USC I helped to establish the first computer center in the School of Engineering, I started the Biomedical Engineering Department and served as the first Chairman of the Electrical Engineering-Systems Department. From 1984 to 1989 I was Chairman of the Computer Science Department. My research moved from hybrid computatation to human-machine systems, system identification (with emphasis on models of biological systems) and robotics. I am a Fellow of the IEEE, the AAAI, and the AAAS, and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering. USC has honored me with an appointment as University Professor and as a recipient of the Presidential Medallion.
