USC SIPI IP Change

ITS is making some changes in their network and as a result we have to change the IP addresses of all systems attached to the SIPI private net on the 4th floor of EEB and in B16A and B10. This is a rather significant migration, and the fact so many users and their computers are not here makes it more difficult. One improvement will be that with the new addresss, systems can be set for automatic addresses (a.k.a. DHCP mode), and when they are connected to the network they will acquire the correct address from the USC DHCP servers. Our network has been blocked from using this method in the past but is now being opened up to us. This should be a significant improvement of people who use laptops exclusively.

All the numerical addresses are being changed from addresses of the form 128.125.20.x to 68.181.2.x. The first three numbers will change, and the last number will remain the same. For example a computer currently using 128.125.20.11 will change to using 68.181.2.11. The hostnames (e.g. whatever.usc.edu) will not change, they will just have a different numerical IP address associated with them. The following network parameters should be used on all systems after they are changed to use the new IP address.
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 68.181.2.1
DNS = 10.73.130.31, 10.73.3.31, 10.73.3.32

There are several ways that you can make these changes to your systems.

For systems that are turned off or not here, someone needs to make a note to change the address next time it comes online in our building.

Since all printers on the 4th floor used 128.125.20 addreses, this change will necessitate recreating all the printer queues on your system since the printers will have new IP addresses.

We have already changed several systems and can report that once the change has been made, access to the system both from inside EEB and from outside USC is the same as it was before.
