D-Clearance and Registration
Many EE courses require D or departmental clearance before students are allowed to register in them.
A study plan signed by a faculty member is no longer required for d-clearance, however, students must meet all pre-determined prerequisites as stated in the university catalog for d-courses. If you are requesting a waiver of a prerequisite, then you must submit, along with your "D-Clearance Form", the "Special Request Form". On the D-Clearance Form please list the courses you want to take (maximum of three), the class number of each lecture and discussion, as well as your ID# or SSN. On the Special Request Form, please indicate which course you would like clearance for and which prerequisite you are requesting waived. Remember, pre-requisite courses that have placement exams will NOT be waived. You must take the placement exam.
These forms may be submitted via email to dclearance@ee.usc.edu, faxed to 213-740-4449, or delivered to EEB 100.
In order to expedite the processing of the Special Request Form (SRF) for NON-PROGRAM-SPECIFIC items, please follow this procedure:
1. Complete the SRF.
2. Send it as an e-mail attachment to Prof. Jerry Mendel, at mendel@sipi.usc.edu. In the e-mail explain the reasons for the request, and include a FAX number, or explain how you will pick up the SRA if it is approved.
3. Include your OASIS report as another attachment to the e-mail. Your SRA will only be considered if this is attached.
For a Program-Specific-Item, you must get apporval from a faculty advisor who is knowedgeable about that program.
Please bring your forms to EEB 100 for d-clearance.
Please FAX both of these forms to EE-Systems at: (213) 740-4449. They will be processed within two days. Please include a telephone number or email address where we can reach you. Should your request need faculty approval, we will contact you to let you know.
