Urbashi Mitra to Serve as USC Center for Excellence in Research (CER) Fellow

August 16, 2010 —

Professor Urbashi Mitra of the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering will be a Fellow at USC Center for Excellence in Research (CER) (http://www.usc.edu/research/about/vp/cer/) during the 2010-2011 academic year. She is the first EE faculty member to receive this distinction.

CER Faculty Fellows are a major part of the CER program, and are selected because of their accomplishments and commitment to promoting a culture of excellence in research at USC. Fellows serve as leaders, advisors and mentors to fellow faculty and students both within and beyond their areas of expertise. They organize cross-disciplinary research activities with common interests and expertise, provide individual mentoring on a range of topics, and direct CER Research Salons and training workshops organized by the USC Office of Research.

Alexander (Sandy) Sawchuk, chair of the Ming Hsieh Electrical Engineering Department-Systems said: "Our department joins me in congratulating Ubli Mitra for her selection as 2010-2011 Fellow at USC Center for Excellence in Research (CER). This is an important appointment that recognizes her research expertise and value to the USC community."
