Two Signal and Image Processing Institute(SIPI) Students win Best Paper Awards

Prof Shri Narayanan, Prof Panos Georgiou and JongHo Shin
Two Ph.D. student members of Signal and Image Processing Institute (SIPI), one from the USC Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering and the other from Computer Science won Best Student Paper Awards at the IEEE 2007 Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP) Meeting, held at Crete, Greece October 1-3, 2007.

Ngai-Man Cheung, a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering won a Best Student paper award, for the paper, co-authored with Professor Antonio Ortega "Flexible Video Decoding: A Distributed Source Coding Approach'

JongHo Shin, a Ph. D. student in Computer Science, won a Best Student paper award, for the paper co-authored with Professors Panos Georgiou and Shri Narayanan for the paper "Analyzing the Multimodal Behaviors of Users of a Speech-to-Speech Trasnlation Device by Using Concept Matching Scores"

Each student received a Certificate from the IEEE Signal Processing Society and 500 Euros, sponsored by the EU Multimedia Understanding through Semantics, Computation and Learning Project.
