Two Ming Hsieh EE Grads Win Viterbi School Best Ph.D. Dissertation Awards


August 16, 2010 —

Ming Hsieh EE Ph.D. graduates recently won two of the three Viterbi School Best Dissertation Awards. Ashok Patel won the best dissertation award in the theoretical research category for his thesis entitled: “Noise Benefits in Nonlinear Signal Processing.” His research supervisor was Prof. Bart Kosko.

Jonghye Woo won the best dissertation award in the experimental research category for his thesis entitled: “Variational Techniques for Cardiac Image Analysis: Algorithms and Applications.” His research supervisor was Prof. Jay Kuo.

Alexander A. (Sandy) Sawchuk, Chair of the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering-Systems commented: "please join me in congratulating Jonghye Woo, Ashok Patel, and their research advisors Bart Kosko and Jay Kuo for these distinctions."
