Sanjit Mitra Received Two Awards in Romania

Sanjit K. Mitra
Professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering received two awards in Romania in July 2007. He was appointed a Honorary Citizen of Cluj-Napoca, capital of Transylvania, Romania by the mayor at a formal ceremony held at the city hall. At the opening ceremony of the 8th International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems held at Iasi, Romania, he was awarded a Honorary Doctorate degree of the Technical University of Iasi by the Rector.

Prof. Mitra is internationally known for his work in analog and digital signal processing and image processing. He has published over 600 papers in these fields, is the author or co-author of twelve books, and holds five patents. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), and a member of the European Association for Signal, Speech and Image Processing (EURASIP). He has won numerous national and international awards for his work and has served the professional community in many capacities.
