January 17, 2007 — Professor Sanjit K. Mitra of the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering and the Signal and Image Processing Institute (SIPI) was elected a Foreign Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) in October 2006.

Founded in the year 1930, the National Academy of Sciences, India is the oldest Science Academy of India. The main objective of the Academy is to provide a national forum for the publication of research work carried out by Indian scientists and to provide opportunities for exchange of views among them.
