Sanjit K. Mitra elected a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering


October 25, 2006 — Professor Sanjit K. Mitra of the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering and the Signal and Image Processing Institute (SIPI) was elected a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) for his contributions to Indian engineering and technology.

The objective of INAE is to promote and advance the practice of engineering and technology, related sciences, and their applications to problems of national importance. INAE honors Indian and foreign nationals whose personal achievements in engineering are of exceptional merit and distinctive eminence in new and developing fields of technology. Nominations for new INAE Fellows from academia, research and development, industry and government are made by INAE members affiliated with various engineering disciplines. Election of up to 50 Fellows each year to INAE is by peer committee following nomination.  The Academy presently has 535 Indian and 32 Foreign Fellows.
