Professor Sandeep Gupta has been appointed as chair of Electrical Engineering-Systems (EE-S) in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering. The appointment, effective January 1, 2013, has an expected term of two and a half years.
Sandeep Gupta is a Professor of Electrical Engineering. He received his B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and obtained M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Professor Gupta has been serving as the Director of the Computer Engineering Division in EE-S since August of 2010 and served two years as Chair of the Engineering Faculty Council from September 2007 to September 2009. He is the immediate-past President of the Academic Senate. Sandeep’s research is in the area of computer-aided design of digital systems with a special emphasis on exposing fabrication imperfections and mitigating their impact. He is co-author of a well-known textbook, Testing of Digital Systems. He is a recipient of a Silver Medal from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, the NSF CAREER award, the Northrop-Grumman Assistant Professorship award, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Academic Senate.
Professor Gupta succeeds Alexander A. Sawchuk who has served as chair since 2005.
