P.Vijay Kumar received the B.Tech and M.Tech. degrees from the Indian Institutes of Technology (Kharagpur and Kanpur) in 1977 and 1979 respectively and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, from USC in 1983. From 1983-2009, he was on the faculty of the EE-Systems Department of USC. He is currently at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (http://ece.iisc.ernet.in/~vijay
) and also an Adjunct Researcher Professor at USC. From 1993-96 Professor Kumar was an Associate Editor for Coding Theory for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. In 1994, he received the USC School-of-Engineering Senior Research Award for contributions to coding theory. He is an IEEE Fellow and on the ISI list of highly-cited authors. He is co-recipient of a best paper award at the DCOSS 2008 Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems as well as a co-recipient of the 1995 IEEE Information Theory Society Prize Paper Award.
