Biographical Information:
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, 1983, USC, Los Angeles, P.Vijay Kumar received the B.Tech and M.Tech. degrees from the Indian Institutes of
Technology (Kharagpur and Kanpur) in 1977 and 1979 respectively. Since 1983 he has been on the faculty of the EE-Systems Department of USC. He is
presently on leave of absence from USC at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore ( http://ece.iisc.ernet.in/~vijay ). Prof. Kumar was an Associate Editor for Coding Theory for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, from1993 to 1996. In 1994, he received the USC School-of-Engineering Senior Research Award for his contributions to coding theory. He is co-recipient of a best paper award (algorithmic track) for a paper presented at the 4th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS '08), Santorini Island, Greece as well as a co-recipient of the IEEE Information Theory Society 1995 Prize Paper Award. He is an IEEE Fellow.
