 Jeffrey Draper
Jeffrey (Jeff) Draper, Ph.D. - Project Leader/Research Asst Professor

Research Interests:

Dr. Draper's current research focus is processing-in-memory (PIM)architectures. Using the enabling technology of embedded DRAM, it is now possible to combine high-density DRAM memory with high-speed processing logic. The Data-Intensive Architecture (DIVA) project explored the use of this technology to architect smart memory co-processors in the form of PIM devices. Some follow-on topics have resulted from this research including polymorphous computing architectures and architectures for cognitive information processing.

Biographical Information:

Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, 1993, University of Texas, Austin, TX.

Dr. Jeffrey Draper holds a joint appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Southern California and a Project Leader in the Computational Sciences Division at USC Information Sciences Institute. He has participated in the architecture development and led the VLSI effort on several large projects in the past 7 years. His research group most recently completed the development and fabrication of its second processing-in-memory (PIM) chip, implemented in 0.18 micron technology and containing 56 million transistors. Dr. Draper has authored or co-authored over 50 published papers in the areas of PIM architectures, VLSI, thermal management, parallel computer architectures, and interconnection networks. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society.
